Biography

〜Japanese Traditional culture〜

【Kontouryu-shikikaiis a group that uses Japanese sword, which is a symbolism of Japanese traditional spirit, for their activities to contribute to the protection, inheritance, and development of “tachimawari-kenjutsu (sword action skills)" and “kenbu(sword dance)" cultures, which have been carried on from the Edo period.  “kenbu(sword dance)" is a Japanese folk art that has been dedicated as a ceremonial festival of shrines for a long time as a ceremony to pay for evil.

As part of our main activities, we hold workshops at various kinds of festivals, dedication festivals at shrines, public facilities etc. all around Japan, seeking to enlighten the traditional culture.
We play an important role in promoting the Japanese culture using traditional skills and performances, by performing overseas as well.

【Kontouryu-shikikai was found in 2008.  We have “dojo” (place where the members train themselves) in 14 areas in Japan, with over 150 members aged 5 to 86.  Our activities aim to connect people, with a theme: “Enrich our lives through “kenbu”(martial art of sword skills)”.
